Music to paint by. Set your mood and mind for relaxation while painting.
My favorite medium is acrylic because of the ease in cleaning up and faster drying time, not to mention the great washes and vibrant colors. I also like the idea of trying watercolor, its so portable. You can take a small palette of colors, a couple of brushes, small w/c pad and bottle of water and your set to go. I plan on trying Plein-Air painting hopefully soon, it really intrigues me.
Most of all, have fun and you will enjoy "that special place" painting takes you for years to come. Remember, practice goes a long way and don't stop trying new mediums and techniques, if you make a mistake- no worries that's how we grow and learn.
